Flew through Terminal 4 to Europe. The terminal shows its age with tired interiors and confusing layout. Security was slow with only a few lanes open. Food options are limited and overpriced even for NYC. That said, immigration was professional and efficient. The AirTrain to Manhattan works fine. Wi-Fi was adequate. Bathrooms were clean enough. JFK gets the job done but isn't pleasant. Really needs the promised renovations.

International arrival at T4 from Shanghai. Immigration had a long line but moved steadily, took about 40 minutes total. Baggage claim was organized and bags came quickly once the belt started. Found decent food options while waiting for my connection. Wi-Fi worked after registration. The terminal is showing age but staff were helpful and professional. Ground transportation signage could be clearer but found the taxi stand eventually.

As a New Yorker, I've been through every JFK terminal. Terminal 5 (JetBlue) is modern and pleasant. Terminal 4 is okay. Some of the others feel like relics. The AirTrain connection is convenient but can be crowded. Parking is expensive and confusing. Food has improved with better local options now. TSA wait times are unpredictable - give yourself extra time. The airport reflects NYC: chaotic energy with moments of excellence.
