Aspen is my goto airport when I want to go to the mountains. It's so easy to get in and out of and you don't have to worry about driving to or from Denver. The ease to be skiing or hiking in the back country can't be matched. With ASE you fly right into the middle of nature.

Fun little day trip from Boulder

In the winter, mountain flying is great on a nice day. Flying out of Boulder airport, I climbed to about 13,500 ft and crossed the pass into the mountains. From there, it's a straight shot up the valley and then a left turn down the next valley near Glenwood Springs to align yourself on the runway.
It can be a tricky flight with the winds so leave early in the morning for a smooth flight. Once there, it's really easy to pull up to the FBO and park for the day.

Great little airport near Aspen

Aspen airport is a great little airport that is perfect to fly into for skiing at any of the 4 Aspen mountains. It's small but efficient. Rental cars, while more expensive than many airports, is very convenient and on site. Shuttles to the town are offered by most hotels for the 10 minute drive to town.
There are 2 things that keep me from giving Aspen a higher rating. Flights can be cancelled or delayed due to inclement mountain weather and it costs $200 more over flying into Denver (DEN) for the convenience factor.
